Packing for a city break used to stress me out more than it should.
I either packed too much, or forgot the small things that actually make traveling easier.
Over time, I have ended up with a packing list I come back to again and again.
Not because it is perfect, but because it works, especially for short trips where I want to travel light, walk a lot, and still feel put together.
This is what I personally pack for city breaks, and what I always keep with me on the plane.
What I Always Bring on the Plane
For city trips, I usually travel with one carry on suitcase and one personal bag that fits under the seat.
I like having everything important close by, so I do not have to open my suitcase mid flight.
A Practical Tote Bag
I always choose a lightweight tote bag that is easy to carry but still fits everything I need.
It is the bag I use at the airport, on the plane, and often while walking around the city once I arrive.
I prefer a simple and classic style that works with most outfits and does not feel too bulky.
I usually travel with a Longchamp bag because it fits everything I need and works for most trips.
A practical tote bag like this makes airport days and long walking days much easier.
Headphones
Good headphones are non negotiable for me when traveling.
I use them to listen to podcasts, watch movies, or simply block out noise on early flights.
I always keep my headphones at the top of my bag so I can grab them as soon as I sit down.
A comfortable pair of headphones like these makes flights feel calmer and more relaxed.
A Large Scarf
This is one of those items I do not really think about until I forget it.
I use a large scarf as a blanket on the plane, for extra warmth in the morning, or to throw over my shoulders in cafés or museums.
It barely takes up space but makes traveling much more comfortable.
I usually bring a black wool scarf because it works with everything and always comes in handy.
A large wool scarf like this is something I never regret packing.
Packing Cubes
Packing cubes completely changed the way I pack for short trips.
They keep my suitcase organized and make it much easier to find things without unpacking everything.
When I do not use packing cubes my hotel room quickly starts to resemble my bedroom as a teenager with clothes on the floor, on the chair, and on the table.
I usually use one packing cube for clothes and one for underwear and basics.
This small system makes short trips feel a lot calmer.
Packing cubes like these make packing and unpacking much easier.
Reusable Water Bottle
When I am exploring a city I like having water with me instead of constantly buying new bottles.
I usually choose a lightweight bottle that does not take up too much space and fits easily into my tote bag.
A reusable water bottle like this is practical to bring on long walking days.
My Everyday City Bag
Once I arrive I usually switch to a smaller bag for walking around the city.
For me it needs to be comfortable to carry, practical, and still work with most outfits.
I keep it simple and only bring the essentials.
I usually carry my phone, wallet, sunglasses, lip balm, and a water bottle.
It is one of those items I use every single day on a trip.
A simple city bag like this works well for sightseeing and long days out.
Optional Extras Depending on the Trip
These do not come with me on every city break but often do.
I usually bring a sleep mask for early flights, hand cream, a small toiletry pouch because brushing my teeth is an absolute necessity on early morning flights, and a notebook.
Nothing fancy, just small things that make traveling feel easier.
I will never be the type of girl who brings her entire skincare routine on the plane, but I still like to make the journey as comfortable as possible.
